Our Story

Scar Cover Up Freedom Fund (SCUFF) was started in 2018. One of the founders, Jess, had her own self-harm scars covered with tattoos as she felt trapped and held back by the constant reminder of a difficult time in her life. She soon realised that there would be others out there, like her, that needed this gift of freedom, who wouldn't be able to afford it, and may need support to do so.

Devastatingly, in late 2023, Jess passed away.

Her loss left a huge gap in the lives of all the team, she was not only our CEO but also a very dear friend to us all.

Jess was always so passionate about what we do here at SCUFF and worked extremely hard to build us into the charity we are today.

After some time to come to terms with her passing, SCUFF continues on in her memory, ensuring those who self-harm get the support they so desperately need.

If you find that you are struggling, please reach out to those in your support network, and to any wider services available in your local areas for help.

You can see our Support page for more information.
